Welcome to Our SEND Unit

Our SEND Unit is a nurturing, inclusive environment where every child is valued, supported and empowered to achieve their full potential. We are proud to provide specialist provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), particularly those with Autism, Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and additional learning needs.

Our Curriculum – The Equals Curriculum

In our SEND Unit, we follow the Equals Curriculum, a highly respected and structured framework designed specifically for pupils with special educational needs. The Equals Curriculum allows us to deliver personalised learning pathways that are meaningful, engaging, and developmentally appropriate.

Through this curriculum, we focus on:

  • Communication and language development

  • Personal, social and emotional growth

  • Independence and life skills

  • Functional literacy and numeracy

  • Preparing pupils for the next stage of education and life

Learning is carefully adapted to meet each pupil’s individual Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets, ensuring progress is both measurable and meaningful.

Specialist Support

Our SEND Unit supports pupils with:

  • Autism

  • Speech and language difficulties

  • Social communication challenges

  • Delayed language development

  • Communication and interaction needs

We work closely with speech and language therapists, families and external professionals to ensure a consistent and supportive approach. Communication is at the heart of everything we do and staff use a range of strategies, including visual supports, structured routines and targeted interventions, to help pupils develop confidence and independence.

A Nurturing Environment

Our dedicated team creates a calm, structured setting where pupils feel safe, understood and ready to learn. We celebrate every achievement, no matter how small and believe that building self-esteem and positive relationships is key to success.

By combining specialist teaching, tailored support and the Equals Curriculum, our SEND Unit ensures that every child has the opportunity to thrive both academically and personally.
